Last night I finished writing my second book, Now the Darkness Gathers, a naval espionage thriller set in the final years leading up to WW1.
Peter Miller's father, a senior officer in naval intelligence, pressures him into joining the newly established Secret Service to penetrate the German intelligence services. In his father's eyes, Peter proves himself a coward and, if he is to regain his father's esteem, he must foil a German plot to foment a jihadist rebellion against the British Raj in the deserts and mountains of Persia .
Now the Darkness Gathers is based on the Royal Navy's early activities to form the forebears of today's MI6 and GCHQ, and Kaiser Wilhelm's call for a Holy War against the British in the Near East and India. All I need to do now is to find a publisher!
