Free Book Giveaway
Last Friday, my latest book, He Who Would Valiant Be, was published and, as a reward to my readers and followers, I am giving away a novelette comprising bonus chapters to round off the series. My latest book completes the Death to Touch series inspired by the activities during WW2 of the Royal Navy’s mine clearance and port clearance teams, and the operations of Ian Fleming’s intelligence commandos, 30 Assault Unit. The three books describe how Royal Navy men and Admiralty scientists foiled German efforts to cripple Allied shipping with magnetic mines and then went on to gather intelligence on further underwater weapons in order to neutralise them. The nine chapters of the novelette Valiant Men describe the activities of the intelligence commandos as they penetrate into Germany during 1945. A brief outline of the story follows below.
Valiant Men is now for sale on Amazon for £1.49, but if you’ve read or want to read He Who Would Valiant Be, then send me your email address and I will gladly forward a free copy.
“In the final story of the Death to Touch WW2 series, Commander ‘Monty’ Montcalm RNVR is still with the intelligence commandos, 30 Assault Unit (30AU), as the Allies’ advance towards Germany’s border. With the Allies preparing to cross the Rhine in early 1945, Monty is called upon to prevent German underwater frogmen from sabotaging the temporary bridges across the Rhine of the American 1st Army at Remagen and then Montgomery’s 2nd Army on the banks of the Rhine opposite Wesel. Should the Germans destroy the bridges, then the Allies’ advance into Germany will falter catastrophically.
Penetrating deep into Germany, 30 AU uncovers vast swathes of hidden technical intelligence, including reference to Dr Hellmuth Walter’s hydrogen peroxide fuelled engines capable of propelling dived U-boats with speeds of up to 25 knots and rocket-powered fighter aircraft far faster than anything the Allied air forces can deploy. It’s a race against time, though. Not only are the Germans hiding and destroying blueprints and examples of their secret inventions, but 30AU must beat the Russians to take the port of Kiel with its vital shipyards. Can Monty arrest Dr Walter before the Russians and, if so, can he persuade him to work for the Royal Navy, or will the Americans nab him?
This fast-paced action thriller is testament to the vital role Ian Fleming’s intelligence commandos played in the war. Initially referred to as 30 Commando, 30AU’s special importance was recognised in March 2001 when 30 Commando Intelligence Exploitation Group was formed with the purpose of deploying ahead of the main Commando force on reconnaissance and surveillance operations.”
